Atdhe: Spurs defeat Cavaliers for the 10th straight time

The San Antonio Spurs achieved their 10th victory in a row over the Cleveland Cavaliers (92-90). On Wednesday night, 11 matches were played in NBA league.

Tim Duncan led the current champions over the Cleveland 92-90 with 19 points as well as Boris Diaw, while Kawhi Leonard scored 12 points. For the Cavs, Anderson Varejao was the most successful with 23 points and 11 rebounds, Kyrie Irving had 20 points, while LeBron James only 15 points and 9 assists.

In the Raptors – Grizzlies clash, the team from Toronto celebrated 96-92 and stayed on the 1st position in the East. The Raptors achieved the victory over the Grizzlies playing excellently in the last quarter when Terrence Ross scored 14 points from his total 16 points. The best was DeMar DeRozan with 21 points, while Kyle Lowry gained 18 points. The Grizzlies were led by Marc Gasol (22 points).

The Lakers achieved their 3rd win of the season beating the Houston Rockets in Texas 98-92. It is also their 2nd straight win. Kobe Bryant was the best again with 29 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, and Jordan Hill is just behind him with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Carlos Boozer had 12 points. Dwight Howard, who used to play for the Lakers, missed the duel against them because of an injury, so the Rockets were led by James Harden with 24 points and 7 assists.

The Milwaukee Bucks celebrated the victory over the Brooklyn Nets 122-118 after 3 overtimes. Jabari Parker scored 23 points, O. J. Mayo 21 points, while Brandon Knight and Giannis Antetokounmpo each scored 18 points. The best for the Nets was Brook Lopez with 26 points and 7 rebounds. 19 points were scored by Bojan Bogdanovic. Deron Williams and Joe Johnson each had 18 points. Johnson also made 8 assists.

After leaving the court for his ankle injury, Dirk Nowitzki returned into the game in the beginning of the last quarter and scored a decisive 3-pointer. Thus, the Dallas beat the Wizards 105-102. For their 5th successive victory Monta Ellis was the most meritorious with 34 points, Brendan Wright and Jose Juan Barea each scored 14, Nowitzki finished the match with 13 points, while Tyson Chandler had 16 rebounds. The Wizards were led by Bradley Beal who scored 21 points in his first match of the season. Paul Pierce and Marcin Gortat each scored 17 points, while John Wall had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

The excellent Solomon Hill’s action in the last second brought the win to the Indiana Pacers over the Charlotte Hornets 88-86. The best for the Pacers was Roy Hibbert with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Luis Scola gained 15 points, while Donald Sloan scored 11 with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The Hornets were led by Al Jefferson with 28 points, while Kemba Walker had 12 points and 7 assists.

The player of the evening was Kevin Martin who achieved 37 points for the Minnesota Timberwolves who defeated the Knicks 115-99. Then, there are Mo Williams with 14 points and 13 assists, while Shabazz Muhammad scored 17 points. Carmelo Anthony achieved 20 points for the Knicks, Amar’e Stoduemire 19, while Jason Smith scored 14.

Philadelphia 76ers lost for the 11th straight time in the season to the Celtics (76-90). Brandon Bass scored 23 points, Sullinger 22.

L.A Clippers beat the Orlando Magic (114-90). The most points were scored by Crawford (22), Griffin 20, while Paul scored 16 points.

The Phoenix Suns, who beat the Detroit Pistons (88-86), were led by Eric Bledsoe (18 points).

Swansea defeated Arsenal after turnaround (2-1) in the last match of the PL Round 11.

“In football you can believe anything is possible, any minute you can concede”, it seemed that Wenger’s words came true on Sunday. The Gunners experienced another disappointment after throwing away the advantage and letting Swansea players win.

Duel at the Liberty Stadium was very interesting and unpredictable. Arsenal took the lead in the 63rd minute when Alexis Sanchez scored a goal from 6 yards assisted by Danny Welbeck.

Although it seemed that Arsenal were favorites, the hosts change the situation within only 3 minutes. First, Gylfy Sigurdsson in the 75th minute equalized from free kick after Gibbs made a foul over Barrow. Only 3 minutes later, Swansea took advantage by Gomis’s header who entered the game in the 76th minute. Arsenal tried desperately to transform the match, but without success.

Achieving this win, Gary Monk’s team overtook Arsenal, and now is placed 5th with 18 point, 1 point more than the Gunners.

It is the 2nd defeat for Arsenal this season. . “It’s disappointing to throw a game away like we did. We were 1-0 up and had to be tight defensively and wait for that second chance. But you have to credit Swansea who didn’t give up”. For Arsene Wenger, it is another big downfall after their loss to Anderlecht in the CL match on Tuesday, in which they lost their advantage (3-0) to end the match in a draw. Anderlecht equalized the result in 29 minutes.

“It’s about belief. We talked about belief before the game, about how good we have been and how good we can be. We showed our character” – said Garry Monk.

One of the Week 10 most impressive events was the Green Bay Packers’ convincing win over the Chicago Bears (55-14) and also the excellent playing of Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers threw 6 touchdowns and he was 18 of 27 for 315 yards. He threw touchdown passes of 73 and 40 yards to Jordy Nelson.

The Packers had advantage of 4 TD-s in the beginning of the 2nd quarter, and Rodgers passed the most part of the 2nd half on the bench.

It was the 190th duel between the two and it is the 5th defeat for the Bears in the last 6 matches.

Another interesting match was seen in Oakland, where the Denver Broncos celebrated the win over the Raiders (41-17). It was especially important match for Peyton Manning who threw 5 TD-s. Thanks to Manning-s interceptions, the Raiders were in advantage (7-2) in the beginning of the match. However, C. J. Anderson turned a short pass into TD and the things started to change for the Broncos. Manning threw 2 touchdown passes to Thomas and to Sanders as well. For the Riders it was the 15th defeat in a row.

The longest match last weekend was played by the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints. The team from California achieved the victory in overtime. It is the 5th win for the 49ers, while the Saints were defeated for the 1st time at home after more than a season.

Atdhe: Houston Rockets beat the Spurs

The Houston Rockets reached 6-0 record in new NBA season after beating the San Antonio Spurs 98-81.

The Houston Rockets seem to be quite prepared this season, which they confirmed after win over the reigning champions, the San Antonio Spurs. The hosts played excellently the first three quarters, after which they had the advantage of 26 points. However, it should be mentioned that the Spurs were missing Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Marco Belinelli which was going in the Houston’s favor from the beginning.

The key role was played by Dwight Howard who gained 32 points and 16 rebounds. Just behind him, there is James Harden with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Jason Terry made 16 points, while Isaiah Canaan 12.

This is the 6th win in a row for Houston and they are now equalized with the Nuggets (season 1986/87).

For the opponent side, the most points were scored by Cory Joseph (18), while Aron Baynes scored 12 points and made 11 rebounds.

The next match for the Rockets is scheduled for this weekend against the Golden State Warriors who will miss their power forward David Lee.

In the other match played on Thursday night, the Portland Trail Blazers, led by LaMarcus Aldridge, defeated the Dallas Mavericks 108-87. Both teams have now 3 wins and 2 defeats.

The Portland Trail Blazers played with a strong defense, and succeeded in stopping LeBron James to just 11 points, while Dirk Nowitzki was held to 17.

For the Blazers, the decisive part of the match was the 3rd quarter which the hosts solved in their advantage 35-18. LaMarcus Aldridge scored the most points: 20 points and 7 rebounds, Damian Lillard made 18 points, 5 rebounds, C. J. McCollum 13, while Chris Kaman and Wesley Matthews 12.

Besides Nowitzki, who gained 17 points and 3 rebounds, and LeBron James, only Monta Ellis and Chandler Parsons had more than 10 points.

Atdhe: Novak won his 6th title of 2014

The world number one, Novak Djokovic, won his 6th title this year and his 3rd Paris Masters beating comfortably Milos Raonic in the finals 6-2, 6-3.

It is also his 47th title in the career and his 20th Masters title. Reaching his 600th trophy he is in the same group with four other current players who won 600 career wins (Federer 991, Nadal 706, Hewitt 611, Ferrer 602, Djokovic 600).

Now, Novak has 10010 points, while Federer 8700. Nadal is placed third with 6835. Djokovic needs 3 wins in the ATP Tour Finals in London to secure his current position for 2014, cause Federer will play in the Davis Cup as well.

In the Paris Masters finals, Djokovic was concentrated and prepared from the beginning. He knew how to disarm his rival who is considered one of the best servers although after some time he had to call for a trainer having problems with the right leg.

Novak had 16 winners and only 10 errors, while Raonic had 27 winners and 29 errors.

“It’s beautiful to win my first match after becoming a father,” said Djokovic, who became a father 10 days ago.

“Congratulations to Milos, I’m very happy for him that he qualified for London but today I played the best tennis I’ve played all week. It’s not easy against a player with such a big serve but I played an exceptional match and I’m very happy to win this trophy.”

Milos Raonic reached the finals after beating Federer, while the Serb broke Murray’s winning streak in the quarter-finals. Actually, he beat the Scott four time this year.”Now I will have a good preparation for London. It’s not that I didn’t want to win here, but I knew it was going to be tough from the start.” – said Federer.
