The EL match between Besiktas and Tottenham was interrupted twice on Thursday evening because of floodlight failure. The match was marked by the win of Besiktas 1-0.

The first floodlight failure occured in the 8th minute of the match, after which the referee sent the players to the dressing room. However, the fans, willing to help, illuminated the dark Ataturk Olympic Stadium with ther phones. After 12 minutes of pause, the light problems were solved so the match continuated.

Disappointed Mauricio Pochettino described the floodlight problems as „laughable“ emphasizing that it was a big reason for his team’s defeat. “It’s frustrating if that happens, it was laughable. It’s not good for reputation of the competition.” – he said. The Spurs had to adapt to circumstances again as they had done two weeks earlier playing the match against Partizan Belgrade which had been disrupted 3 times due to the unconvinient fans’ behaviour. However, it had been a better day for Tottenham who had defeated Partizan and entered the knockout stage of Europa League.

In the first part of the yesterday game, there were some good chances for Chadli and also for Soldado who left the game in the middle of the 2nd half. However, the hosts, who played without Demba Ba, started better the 2nd half of the match which was crowned by Tosun’s winner from close range in the 59th minute. He was assisted by Sahan.

There were problems with light in stoppage time again, but it lasted shortly.

Besiktas are now placed 1st in their EL Group, while the Spurs are on the 2nd position. Behind them there are Asteras and Partizan Belgrade. This loss means that Tottenham will play against some of the EL leaders or maybe against some of the teams that won’t play anymore for CL.
