Roger Federer reached the 2nd position on ATP list, just behind Novak Djokovic after beating Gilles Simon (7-6; 7-6) in Shanghai Masters finals.

The victory is Federer’s 23rd Masters title, the first Shanghai Masters title and also the 81st title in his career.

From Monday, he will be placed 2nd on ATP list with 9080 points, while Novak Djokovic stays on the first position but with less points (11510) cause he didn’t defend his champion title.

The final match was quite unpredictable, both players had the same number of winners (21 each). Federer made 36 unforced errors, while the Frenchman 29. However, the Swiss was better in the most important parts of the match in spite of his bad start. In the 2nd set Simon didn’t give up easily. He was in advantage 6-5 and had two break points and 1 set point, but after his two unforced errors, Federer took advantage. The 2nd set finished by Simon’s hit into the net when Federer took control and won the champion title.

“To win the biggest tournament in Asia is a treat,” said Federer for his first Shangai Masters title. For Gilles Simon, it is the 2nd loss in a Masters final (he was defeated in Madrid 2008 by Murray).

The match between Chelsea and Schalke started with the first Fabregas’s goal for the team, in the 11th minute. However, Huntelaar equalized the result in the 62th minute assisted by Draxler which disappointed Mourinho after Chelsea’s many missed chances.

The excellent match was played between NK Maribor and Sporting Lisbon where after many opportunities for both sides, the results were shown in the very end of the game. Actually, Sporting went ahead in the 80th minute after Nani’s score, but soon after in the 90th minute, Luka Zahovic put the final draw by his header to the center of the goal.

Just like Roma, FC Porto played an easy match against Belorussians BATE Borisov scoring 6 goals. The star of the match was certainly Brahimi who scored three goals, one of them from a free kick. The goalscorers were also Martinez, Adrian, and Aboubakar. The BATE Borisov played without a score.

The only match played without points was between Ath Bilbao and Shaktar Donetsk. The Spaniards are now placed second, while Shaktar Donetsk third in Group H.
