The world number 1, Serena Williams, defeated Simona Halep (6-3; 6-0) in the WTA Tour Finals in Singapore. It’s her third WTA Tour Finals in a row, which was also achieved by Monica Seles in 1992.

There is another satisfaction for Serena – a revenge for being cruelly defeated by Halep in the group stage four days ago.

“I lost to her a couple of days ago so I knew she was capable of playing really well and she started out well but I knew that I had to play better if I wanted to win and I definitely wanted to win so I did what it has to take to play better.” – said the champion.

This is her 7th title this season and 64th in career. She won her 5th WTA title, just as Steffi Graff. On the other side, it was the first WTA Finals for young Simona.

Both of them started nervously the match, but Halep was slightly better. She was in advantage (2-1), but she missed the chance to double her advantage which was good for Serena. She continued to play agressively in the 2nd set determined in her revenge despite the exhausting match against Wozniacki two days earlier. Halep couldn’t have resistedit and she became more nervous and made many errors.

Serena finished the match with 26 winners and 25 unforced errors, while Halep with 5 winners and 15 unforced errors.

“I knew she will play better this match because she saw how I play, she saw what she has to do during the match, so she did really well today,” said Halep.

In spite of her failure in the finals, it is a successful year for Simona. The Romanian started 2013 ranked 47th and she has finished this season placed 3rd just behind Maria Sharapova.

The American Serena Williams entered the Singapore WTA tour finals after a dramatic match against her friend Caroline Wozniacki.

The match full of tension lasted two hours and fifteen minutes. Serena beat Wozniacki (2-6; 6-3; 7-6).

The Dane dominated in the 1st set which made Serena break her racquet in desperation. After Serena made too many errors, Caroline finished the set (6-2).

However, the world number 1 started more aggressively the 2nd set, which made Caroline nervous. She made 2 break points and thus won the 2nd set (6-3).

The third set, the longest one, was thrilling. Serena missed her only break point in the 4th game and Wozniacki broke her in the 9th. Serena’s victory was secured after her five straight points and after Caroline’s forehand went wide.

This defeat will be very frustrating for Caroline who played well and had many opportunities.”This really sucks. You know, being so close and still losing, it really sucks.” – said Wozniacki who was beaten by Serena Williams in US Open final, too.

However, it was a difficult match for Serena as well. “Caroline played a great match, it was really difficult today. I feel so bad,”– said the reigning champion.

The tournament in Singapore is played for the reward of 6,5 million dollars.

The finals will be played on Sunday and Williams will face 23-year-old Simona Halep who beat convincingly Agnieszka Radwanska (6-2; 6-2) in a match that lasted around 1 hour. Thus, Serena will have chance to defend her last-year title and she said that she was looking forward to play again against Halep. Actually, the Romanian had crashed her in the group stage (6-0; 6-2).
“I’m very excited to be in the final. I’ve played my best tennis here this week.” – said Halep about the incoming final.

Roger Federer reached the 2nd position on ATP list, just behind Novak Djokovic after beating Gilles Simon (7-6; 7-6) in Shanghai Masters finals.

The victory is Federer’s 23rd Masters title, the first Shanghai Masters title and also the 81st title in his career.

From Monday, he will be placed 2nd on ATP list with 9080 points, while Novak Djokovic stays on the first position but with less points (11510) cause he didn’t defend his champion title.

The final match was quite unpredictable, both players had the same number of winners (21 each). Federer made 36 unforced errors, while the Frenchman 29. However, the Swiss was better in the most important parts of the match in spite of his bad start. In the 2nd set Simon didn’t give up easily. He was in advantage 6-5 and had two break points and 1 set point, but after his two unforced errors, Federer took advantage. The 2nd set finished by Simon’s hit into the net when Federer took control and won the champion title.

“To win the biggest tournament in Asia is a treat,” said Federer for his first Shangai Masters title. For Gilles Simon, it is the 2nd loss in a Masters final (he was defeated in Madrid 2008 by Murray).
